High tea

This afternoon, I was finally able to treat my mom to a VERY belated Mother’s Day treat. Since she does so much for everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, I thought what better way to treat her than to spoil her with an afternoon tea – just the two of us.

We went to “Afternoon Tea” at The Ritz-Carlton in Pentagon City. Aside from the obvious quality that The Ritz embodies, the staff was beyond friendly and wonderful. Our reservation was for 2:30, but arrived closer to 2:15. They kindly sat us in the tea room – and we relished the fact that we had the place to ourselves for a little while.

There are four options for tea. Ranging in price from $16-42 (we ended up splitting the “Afternoon Tea” that was $38, and was plenty), the various teas range from tea and scones, finger sandwiches, and mimosas. They even have a “Teddy Bear” tea geared for little ones.

The chef selects the finger sandwiches and desserts, but you have your choice of tea. Normally we both like “traditional” teas (black, green, Earl) – but decided to go out on a limb and try something new. We settled on the Rooibos Citrus blend. With subtle notes of clementine and other citrus fruits, this selection was a perfect pairing to the arrangement of smoked salmon with caviar, chicken salad, tomato mozzarella, cranberry scones, and chocolate infused desserts.

In addition to the exceptional service and bites, the staff surprised my mom (and I) with a complimentary dessert to honor her.

A HUGE thank you to The Ritz-Carlton for making our mother-daughter date a wonderful time. We are already looking forward to our next visit!
